More Than a Century of Cable Manufacturing The American Wire and Cable Company was formed in 1899 as the cable manufacturing division of United States Steel Corporation (USX) in Worcester, Massachusetts. Its primary function was manufacturing mining cable for USX’s numerous coal mines. The company moved to its present location in El Dorado , Arkansas in 1979, and was renamed AmerCable in 1982 after being sold to Associated Materials Corporation. The company expanded its product lines into the Oil & Gas, Transportation and Industrial markets.
In June 2002 senior management, which has led AmerCable’s unprecedented growth since 1993, purchased the company. This management group, headed by President and CEO Bob Hogan, focused on expanding AmerCable’s market positions through high quality, innovative products and value-added services that deliver greater customer profits.
